DC’s The Brave and the Bold: Christina Hodson Writing New Batman Movie with Damian Wayne as Robin! (2026)

The Bat-Signal Just Got a Major Boost: Can This Writer Save Gotham? News just dropped that DC Studios is entrusting Christina Hodson, the writer behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, with scripting the upcoming Batman film, The Brave and the Bold. This is HUGE news for Batman fans, but it also raises some serious questions. Can Hodson deliver a fresh take on the Dark Knight while staying true to the character's core?

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news, sending ripples of excitement (and, let's be honest, a little bit of trepidation) through the DC fandom. But here's where it gets controversial... Hodson's previous DC work has been met with mixed reactions. While some praise her for her unique voice and ability to create compelling female characters, others have criticized her for straying too far from the source material. Will she face similar scrutiny with The Brave and the Bold?

For those unfamiliar, Christina Hodson's resume includes writing Bumblebee, the unreleased Batgirl movie (which, let's be honest, still stings), Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and The Flash. The Brave and the Bold is set to focus on Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, aka Robin. This isn't just any Robin, though. Damian is the biological son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, raised by the League of Assassins to be a highly skilled, and frankly lethal, weapon. The film will explore Damian's journey as he chooses to live with his father, grappling with Bruce's values and honing his detective skills. Think of it as a dark, dysfunctional family drama... with capes and Batarangs. And this is the part most people miss... Damian's internal conflict is a HUGE part of his character. He's constantly battling his upbringing and trying to reconcile it with Batman's code. If Hodson nails this aspect, she could truly deliver something special.

So, how far along is the script? The Hollywood Reporter's sources suggest Hodson has been working on the project since the fall, but a substantial draft is still some time away. Originally, Andy Muschietti, director of The Flash, was slated to both develop and direct The Brave and the Bold. Finding a writer proved to be a challenge, but with Hodson now on board and Muschietti still attached to direct, the project could see significant momentum in the coming months.

Will Andy Muschietti Stay on Board?

There's a potential scheduling conflict looming. Muschietti is also working on Welcome to Derry, a second season of HBO's It series. If he wants to remain director of The Brave and the Bold, the production will need to navigate his Welcome to Derry commitments.

Personally, I don't think rushing this film is the answer. Matt Reeves's The Batman Part II is taking its sweet time, but with the script reportedly complete, it's hopefully only a matter of time before it hits theaters. DC Studios likely wants to avoid releasing two Batman movies too close together, even though they exist in different universes. Which brings us to the big question: who will play Batman and Robin in Hodson's film? I'm drawing a blank at this stage. Maybe an unknown actor would be best for Damian to avoid too many preconceptions.

What do you think? Are you excited about Christina Hodson writing The Brave and the Bold? Do you think she's the right choice for the project? And who would you cast as Batman and Robin? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
