Musk took to X, the platform in question, to express his outrage, calling the fine "crazy" and "insane." He didn't stop there; he directed his anger towards the individuals who imposed the fine, suggesting a personal vendetta. The EU also criticized X's digital ad database, legally required to disclose advertisement details and targeted audiences. According to officials, X's system has limitations and delays, making it challenging for researchers to identify scams and influence campaigns.
And this is the part most people miss... Regulators accused X of obstructing researchers' access to public data related to systemic risks. Henna Virkkunen, the EU's executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, security, and democracy, stated, "Deceptive practices like blue checkmarks and opaque ad information have no place in the EU. The DSA protects users from such practices."
The ruling has sparked criticism, with Washington officials claiming the EU is targeting American tech companies. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio took to X, stating, "The European Commission's fine is an attack on all American tech, not just X. It's an assault on American interests by foreign governments."
Musk agreed, adding, "The days of online censorship are over."
