Erongo Launches Road Safety Campaign for Holiday Season 2025-2026 (2026)

Erongo Gears Up for Holiday Traffic with Road Safety Operations

Namibian authorities are taking no chances when it comes to road safety during the festive season. The Erongo region is setting the stage for a safer holiday travel experience with a series of road safety measures, and the stakes couldn't be higher. But is this enough to ensure everyone's safety?

The Namibian Police Force (Nampol) has kicked off their 2025/2026 road safety campaign at the Swakopmund checkpoint, a strategic move to manage the anticipated surge in traffic. The operation, aptly themed 'Do the Right Thing and Save Lives,' will run from 9th December 2025 to 16th January 2026, covering the peak holiday period.

Erongo's police regional commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating that the region is gearing up for a significant influx of travelers. The roadblocks, he said, are just the beginning of a comprehensive strategy to ensure road safety.

And this is where it gets interesting: Swakopmund's new mayor, Suamma Kautondokwa, is already making waves by advocating for community engagement. She highlighted the importance of personal responsibility, reminding everyone that their choices on the road have real consequences. But how much of an impact can individual responsibility have on road safety?

Erongo governor Natalia /Goagoses echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the critical role of roadblocks in preventing accidents. She urged drivers to be cautious, highlighting the dangers of speeding, fatigue, and driving under the influence.

Mupenzeni Ntelamo, the chief regional officer, concluded the event with a powerful message: road safety is a shared responsibility. He called upon drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike to commit to safe practices. But will this call to action be enough to make a difference?

As the Erongo region braces for the holiday rush, the question remains: will these road safety activities effectively protect travelers? The authorities are doing their part, but is it enough? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
