Exciting Race Day Ahead: A Look at Ascot and Haydock!
As we gear up for Saturday, there’s an exciting lineup of horses making their way to both Ascot and Haydock. A handful of these contenders possess promising chances for success, and I’m hopeful that we can secure some solid prize money this weekend—consider it an early Christmas gift to ourselves!
ASCOT
Saturday's Events at Ascot
MOUNT GAY RUN – 1:15 PM
This race marks a significant increase in distance compared to his previous outing, but that last race proved to be beneficial for him, enhancing his readiness for this challenge. He is set to compete from a competitive handicap mark, and I don’t foresee the longer trip causing any issues; he’s in excellent shape and has been training well. I genuinely believe he stands a strong chance in this race.
ETALON – 1:50 PM
After a solid performance at Fontwell, Etalon faced a setback at Newbury, so it’s crucial for him to move past that experience. His form has been somewhat erratic this season, but when he’s at his best, he’s certainly competitive. We’ll be introducing cheekpieces for the first time in hopes of helping him refocus. We’re also increasing the distance, which should suit him better—he’s shown he wants a bit more ground to work with.
LIVE CONTI & FAIVOIR – 3:35 PM
I will be riding Live Conti, a promising four-year-old who has had ample recovery time since his run at Aintree last April. He performed admirably that day, finishing behind a talented filly trained by Willie Mullins. We’ve been working extensively with him in training, but this race presents a different level of challenge. It’s a highly competitive handicap, but we anticipate he’ll develop into a two-and-a-half miler in the future; we envision him as a potential chaser for next year. This race will provide him with valuable experience in larger fields, which should benefit him moving forward. We’re optimistic about his performance.
Faivoir will also be competing in the same race, and he’s coming off a strong showing where he finished third in the Greatwood at Cheltenham. We’re hoping for a bit of rain, as both he and Live Conti prefer softer ground. I believe he’s improved since his last outing and is adept at handling the pressure of these big races, racing off a competitive mark. He often shines in high-stakes situations, making him an appealing each-way bet. Heidi Palin will be back in the saddle, and they have a solid rapport, which should enhance their chances.
HAYDOCK
Saturday's Events at Haydock
LARGY BELTER – 12:20 PM
Largy Belter is still finding his footing in the world of novice chases; he’s a work in progress. While he’s gaining valuable experience against strong competitors in novice chases, we believe he’ll be better suited to handicaps once he has a rating. Despite not performing poorly in his two novice outings this season, this race offers another chance for him to gather experience, and fingers crossed he’ll secure a mark soon. I’m confident that victory isn’t far off for him.
COBBLER’S BOY – 12:55 PM
Regardless of the outcome here, Cobblers Boy will benefit from this run; he truly needs it. We’ve worked hard with him at home, especially since he tends to be quite keen. He managed to get the job done at Warwick last time out and has noticeably improved since then. We’re eager to see him return to form, but I suspect he’ll need this race to shake off any rust.
PONY SOPRANO – 1:30 PM
I believe Pony Soprano possesses a strong chance in this race. He’s in good form and was performing well at Exeter until an early mistake disrupted our rhythm. He seems to thrive at two miles on soft ground, and we plan to let him race prominently, aiming to establish a good pace early on. If he can find his rhythm, I think he can put in a strong effort. He’s definitely better than what his result at Exeter suggests; without that early error, he would have likely finished much closer to the leaders.
SUPREME MALINAS – 2:40 PM
Supreme Malinas ticks many boxes for this race: she thrives on soft ground, has already had a run this season, and the distance is just right for her. She is currently in great form and has a strong chance of winning. Despite her smaller stature, she compensates with immense heart and determination, and I’m confident she’ll handle the conditions exceptionally well.
