The Indian team's success began with Velavan Senthilkumar, India's national champion and 45th-ranked player in men's squash, who dominated the court against Pedro Mometto, the world No. 183. Senthilkumar's 3-0 victory (7-5, 7-2, 7-2) set the tone for the match.
Anahat Singh, the youngest squash player in the tournament at just 17 years old, demonstrated remarkable composure in her second match. She breezed past Laura Silva, ranked 121st, with a 3-0 score (7-4, 7-0, 7-2), showcasing her potential as a rising star in the sport.

England followed suit in 1999, and Egypt won the 2011 edition in Chennai. After a 12-year break, the tournament resumed in 2023, with Egypt emerging as champions, and India securing a bronze medal, their best-ever finish.
